The major is a nightclub owner from Trinidad who was injured in the secret zombie wars in 1984, lost an arm in the process, and has been wearing a laser prosthesis ever since - which also earned him the lucrative part-time job of working as an agent for the CIA and the M5. He has been musically active since star producer Diplo and Dubsided label boss Switch took him under their wing. Of course, most of this is nonsense that Diplo and Switch came up with.
As Major Lazer, the two bring a shot or blown sound structure onto the market, which dares to build a bridge from the 80s to the distant future with Jamaica dancehall influences and garish keyboard sounds - and shoots better than the Death Star.
The surprise EP “Soca Storm”, which was released at the end of January, is a foretaste of the album that will follow at the end of 2020 and could not usher in a better mood for the six City Takeovers shows in Berlin and Cologne.
