Among many other things, North Africa has always been a magnet and an ispiration for artists and people from all over the world. No wonder Paul Bowles moved to Tangier and lived there for 52 years, Rolling Stones pilgrimaged there, too, and Bryan Jones ended up producing the legendary local band Master Musicians Of Joujouka. Needless to mention William S. Burroughs and his most famous novel “Naked Lunch”, which was written in Tangier's Hotel El Muniria.
Fed by traditional « Gnawa » and Berber rhythms ever since he was born in the suburbs of Agadir, young DJ and producer GAN GAH is now based in Brussels. He has been performing for many years as a beat maker under various pseudonyms and knows how to shake a dance floor with his bewitching beats. Offering a cunning combination of club music and traditional North-African rhythms and melodies, his first EP “Souktronics” is a declaration of love to his Moroccan roots and to modern electronic music which caused a lot of noise on dance floors worldwide. His second opus “Chaâbitronics” EP came out in June 2016 on Lowup Records.
The Tropikal Camel has presented the new urban sounds of Middle Eastern/North African futurism in top venues, clubs and festivals all over Europe, Africa and the Middle East. He creates a cross-genre by combining traditional Arab music and cutting-edge electronic sounds. This cross-genre is a quest for a new identity, one that has been released from colonialist thinking. An identity that respects the past while looking at the future. It's urban but tribal, dramatic but minimal, full of contradictions but maintains a balance. Electronic music that has a meaning and tells a story.
As with every Hafla, Halla-B serves as a bridge between the music of the Middle East and Berlin. This time they perform a selection of songs heavy on Moroccan flavor.
