At just 20-years-old, Felix skyrocketed to the forefront of electronic dance music in 2015. His inescapable remix of OMI's “Cheerleader” scored among others a triple-platinum certification from the RIAA as well as a Diamond award in his home country of Germany and reached # 1 of the single charts in 55 countries including the Billboard Hot 100 for six non-consecutive weeks. His 2018 full-length debut spawned the Diamond-certified “Ain’t Nobody (Loves Me Better)” [feat. Jasmine Thompson].
“When‘ Cheerleader ’happened, I was suddenly. touring the world. I was super anxious, nervous, and often scared, ”he recalls. “I experienced a lot of pain and started asking myself,‘ Why do I feel sad? Why do I feel lonely? Why do I even create? ’I was going in circles and couldn't seem to calm my mind. I was soon looking for answers, solutions to my struggles and a new purpose. On my second album I wanted to reach a deeper level with my songs to inspire my fans who might be struggling with themselves, too. That's why I decided to open up and talk about my issues, mental health, bi-sexuality and other topics that deeply affected me and made the person I am today. ”
After an unbelieveable five years filled with ups and downs, Felix brought all of his experiences into the studio and placed them into his music. In summer 2019, he kicked off a new sonic era by making the anthem of self-empowerment “Love On Myself” [feat. Calum Scott], after one year of songwriting sessions all around the world. On its heels, he maintained the momentum with “Close Your Eyes” [feat. VIZE, Miss Li], which highlights the important topic of mental health and ushered in another creative phase and marked progression. It topped charts across Europe and earned worldwide acclaim. However, he paved the way for his new musical journey with the 2020 single “SICKO” [feat. GASHI & Faangs]. A simmering groove and finger-snaps gives way to sparse piano as Faangs ’hypnotic vocals take hold. Veering between a world music bounce, club swagger, and pop scope, the track snaps into GASHI’s catchy confession, “I'm a sicko, no you don’t know who you’re playing.”
“It's about the dark times,” Felix admits. “No one really stuck with me, because they would eventually find out I'm emotionally sick. On the outside, everything is shiny and amazing. On the inside, it was actually fucking dark. "SICKO" comes at the beginning of the album, but after darkness, comes light and the following singles. "
The new era has started, and Felix took the reins of the creative process for his upcoming album. He co-wrote all of the lyrics in order to properly communicate his story and also took a deep dive into the visual world around his releases. As a result, his DNA courses through every moment.
He goes on, "I was the DJ, I was the producer, and I was focused on the sound. Now, I'm dictating the topics. I approached the sessions differently, because I knew what I wanted to say. Today, I'm feeling good, and I wanted my writing to reflect that. So, I went back into the studio in LA and at my home in Germany to complete the album and write happy songs in February 2020. ”
Now Felix is ready to heat up summer with “No Therapy” [feat. Bryn Christopher & Nea]. With its party-ready spirit, the track infuses positive lyrics into a crossover anthem about enjoying the good times and being there for one another.
“When listening to my music, I want you to walk away with a sense of togetherness and positivity,” he leaves off. “I'm grateful for all I went through to see the world with different eyes now. I realized I needed to look inside in order to find peace, freedom and happiness. I hope I can motivate people to take the time to listen to themselves, their bodies, and their minds. ”
Not to mention, he joined forces with NOTD for the gold-selling 2019 smash “So Close” [feat. Georgia Ku & Captain Cuts] and just received a triple-platinum certification in Brazil for his collaboration “All The Lies” with Alok and The Vamps. With 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify Felix music continues to spread joy with his latest hit ‘Some Say (Felix Jaehn Remix)’ that just entered the global top 10.
