Lucia, the namesake
The Scandinavian-inspired Christmas market bears the name of the light bringer Lucia, who gives warmth and security in the dark season. In her honor, the whole of Scandinavia celebrates the Lucia Festival on December 13th - the day on which the winter solstice used to fall. In Berlin, too, the Lucia Festival is traditionally celebrated by the Luciakör. Girls in white robes with a wreath of candles on their heads or a candle in their hands wander through the courtyards of the Kulturbrauerei and sing Swedish songs. Then they invite you to sing together.
Scandinavian cosiness
The cozy atmosphere that emanates from the Lucia Festival spreads out completely on the cozy Lucia Christmas market at today's creative location Kulturbrauerei. Its Scandinavian decor and thousands of lights that glitter everywhere stimulate all the senses and convey calm and cosiness.
At many market stalls there are popular foods and drinks from the far north that are well known for the Christmas season. A special feature of the Lucia Christmas Market is the huge selection of mulled wine specialties. More than twenty variations, ranging from the well-known mulled wine to Swedish Glögg and Finnish Glögi to Icelandic mulled wine, can be tasted here.
Swedish ambience and handicrafts
More than sixty market stalls are decorated in the red and white Scandinavian style. Here handicrafts and local and Scandinavian delicacies are offered. Flickering Swedish fires and the popular art object "open-air jacket heating" provide warmth between the booths. At this bizarre installation, visitors who are cold can put on warm fur coats, which are supplied with warmth by a wood-burning stove. If you are still cold, you can pay a visit to the mobile sauna or the hiking yurt.
Knight's castle and star ladder for the little visitors
Children can climb the star ladder at the Lucia Christmas Market (balance-skill game on the rope ladder) or immerse themselves in a small knight's castle in bygone times. At the big Santa Claus throne, children can leave their very secret lines to Santa Claus in the wish mailbox. During a ride on the nostalgic chain carousel, the little ones can marvel at the lights of the Christmas market again.

The Kulturbrauerei owes its name to its use as a brewery at the time. The over 25,000 m² area is now home to a large number of event and party locations and is one of the few well-preserved industrial architectural monuments from Berlin at the end of the 19th century.
