pop abroad (PIA) is back with a dose of alternative genre mixes! The series of events returns this year with four editions, on April 6th, June 16th, September 8th and November 17th. The venue is the Ausland, an independent venue in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin.
On April 6, 2023, the first edition will start with the Berlin synth freaks from 13 Year Cicada, the electronic sound from 6zm and the performance and sound artist Kupalua.
The concert series pays particular attention to the fringes of what is commonly perceived as pop music. Unusual designs, a wealth of ideas and the unconditional will to express are just as important as a strong performance. You won't find boring format pop in the PIA program, you go into a kind of sound laboratory situation. The lineup of the first edition of pop im ausland promises exactly that.
13 Year Cicada bring synth jazz math extravaganza to the stage. The Berlin-based trio combines intricate rhythms and melodies with unexpected instruments to create music that is both danceable and intellectually challenging.
6zm is known for cross-genre electronic sounds. 6zm mixes elements from hip-hop, house and techno into a unique soundscape.
Kupalua's performances showcase a fascinating fusion of performance, voice, composition, music production and lasers. The action and sound artist from Brazil explores the power dynamics between and within bodies, addressing gender-specific expectations and the institutionalization of human relationships.
Tickets for the first edition of PIA on April 6 are now available for pre-sale. We look forward to welcoming you to pop abroad and dancing, dreaming, marveling, jumping, floating and sinking into the music with you.
