JIMI TENOR & BAND
Jimi Tenor has recorded a second album with the Berlin label Philophon: "Aulos".
"Aulos" is an organic work, recorded primarily with acoustic instruments. The core group on the recording was the same as its acclaimed predecessor, Order of Nothingness (PH33003): Ekow Alabi Savage on drums, percussion and backing vocals, Maxy Weissenfeldt on drums and percussion, and Master Jimi on flute, saxophone, keyboards and vocals .
For some pieces, the horn section was supplemented by the outstanding musicians Johannes Schleiermacher on baritone saxophone and flute and Johannes Böhmer on trumpet.
The Philophon-Studio in Berlin, where the album was recorded, is full of unusual instruments: vintage keyboards, exotic string instruments, African percussion instruments, even a whole gamelan orchestra could have been used. For Jimi it is a place of inspiration every time he enters the sacred halls of the studio in Kreuzberg, as exotic sound generators have always been his passion.
Jimi gets a lot of his ideas from walking around in the forest in his native Finland, collecting mushrooms. The forest is a complex organism and Jimi tried to reflect this complexity in "Aulos". Sometimes more is more!
“Aulos” was produced by Philophon boss Maxy Weissenfeldt and mixed at his leisure in his new studio in Ghana. As on the previous Jimi Tenor album, the sound engineer was the legendary equipment and cable wizard Stibbo Spitzmüller.
After his brilliant debut in 2019, Jimi Tenor will bring his big band back to the Hamburg Elbphilharmonie and present "Aulos" live. There will again be an all-star cast, who will also play a selection of Jimi's classics from his 30+ year career.
