To write a song called 'MURDERER' but with the words "L.O.V.E. for everybody” ends, it takes a band that has understood three things: First, political activism and criticism of the system are necessary to protect human lives. Second, the world is an interconnected community even in its feelings of anger, confusion, and compassion. And third, dark pop can be a tool to channel just that.
With "DARK", BLACKOUT PROBLEMS' third album was released on January 15th, 2021, on which it becomes clear right from the opener 'MURDERER' that anger has to transform. The anger is the resentment about the state of a society that seems incapable - despite all the warnings that history and science are showing us - to create a peaceful and sustainable place.
The text is in the light of the disturbing headlines of the past few years and unmistakably reflects the pain in view of the right-wing forces that have regained strength in this country and the worldwide triumph of populism. This anger and pain runs on DARK through topics like climate change, personal setbacks but also the courage to keep going.
"DARK" was released on January 15th, 2021 via Sony Music/Munich Warehouse and entered the German album charts at number 12.
