GEGEN HOMOPATIK: THE GOLDEN CAGE
Both "Back when Pluto was a planet" and the "Golden Age" themes of the Festival Transmediale 2013 and the Festival CTM.13 respectively play with a certain social and cultural construction of memory, shifted in a projected time which fails in the representation of the present, we love to apply the concept of "future memory" and "performative failure" as the critical space in which to build a different vision.
"Pluto" is an eccentric entity, rolling back and forth between the status of a planet and the one of a star in the scientific community pool. Its non-definition gegen-defines Pluto as a queer entity escaping structural prisons, making all systems explode in their democracy of exemplification. Pluto is too individual, it can't be absorbed. It obliges the viewer to pose a series of questions not just on its strange, out of center, multiple nature but, most of all, about the system itself imposing a definition, a position, a nature. The concept of "platform" or "Age-As-Platform" becomes central in a discussion bringing Pluto in an invisible, "golden" jail.
The present idea of a golden age of information with full access causes a risk of redundant positive thinking where strange mechanisms appear. In this rhetoric the accent seems to exalt the desire to enter a world of welfare in which endless possibilities are given by the free redistribution of resources. This notion represents a contradictory picture; the surface of an iceberg where the cold hidden dark side is the biggest part of the whole composition. In the social media economy the “access as contextualisation” intends to trace information as consumption routes, producing a “golden age” in the hands of platform owners in a double bind between social control and digital capitalism. In this theoretical skyline Facebooks digital skies fuse themselves with Berlin gentrification mechanisms as the non-plus-ultra of what Saskia Sassen defines as “global city”.
Celebrating the Dark Age of the Golden Cage, two historical post-identitarian events productions GEGEN and HOMOPATIK decide to create strange holes in the golden dawn of private skies by assaulting the invisible walls of Pluto's prison, by re-discussing identitarian dialectics and applying tactile dialogics, by obscuring transnational markets and developing new forms of viral promotion, by mixing genders with human manufacts and stealing life of the social network near death experience.
Crisis is the intra-dancefloor of strange actualisations where models of entertainment are constructed on identifying processes. To experience the unexperienced is the only way to expand a notion of the self that, not recognising itself, gives spaces for the flowering of the new. A sliding idea in which scenes cannot be represented by shadow-promoters; markets cannot be absorbed by oligopolies and musics cannot be replicated as original.
So this is an invitation to free and self-represent your inner Plutos; to understand the reSource platform as cage and to perceive yourself within. Constriction is construction where your pathology is desire. Let your digital cage become yourself, there you'll shine as pure, liquid metal.
