It is difficult to determine where the origin of hummus lies. Google usually assumes Syrian, Lebanese or Egyptian roots, others mention Palestine. What is certain, however, is that hummus is an Arabic dish that has been happily embraced in most Middle Eastern countries and has worked its way into the heart of Western societies in recent years - on the shelves of supermarket chains, at food events and as an important part of the vegan lifestyle.
We, the Arabs, Jews and Germans - the organizers of the Berlin Hummus Festival - don't care: we just come together to celebrate our mutual love for this dish. We gather for the seventh time on a Sunday afternoon to nourish our souls and our bodies and to emphasize the sweet pleasures that bind us all together as human beings, far deeper than any identity forced upon us from birth.
Various hummus lovers from different countries will offer you their own interpretation of the dish, while musicians and DJs combine Middle Eastern music with the local electronic scene in a wonderful open-air party.
